Public Lighting Design was engaged by Monash City Council to develop a lighting design for a 2km shared footpath in Chadstone, improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The project aimed to create a well-lit, comfortable, and visually appealing route while ensuring compliance with Australian standards.

A thorough site assessment was conducted to evaluate existing conditions, including vegetation cover, infrastructure constraints, and potential lighting solutions. While solar-powered lighting was initially explored, it was ultimately deemed unfeasible due to the dense tree coverage limiting solar exposure. Instead, the focus shifted to a grid-connected lighting solution that would deliver reliable and consistent illumination across the entire pathway.

Public Lighting Design developed a preliminary lighting design, carefully selecting fixtures and layout configurations to meet AS/NZS 1158.3.1-2020, subcategory PP4 requirements. The design incorporated 47 luminaires, strategically positioned on a combination of new lighting poles and existing distribution infrastructure to optimise efficiency and minimise additional installation costs.

Close coordination with Monash City Council was maintained throughout the project. The final plans provide uniform, compliant, and energy-efficient illumination, enhancing safety for the community while aligning with council’s long-term urban planning and infrastructure goals.
