Public Lighting Design was engaged by City of Port Phillip to develop a revised lighting solution for the Catani Gardens Central Path, a highly frequented public space requiring a balance between safety, functionality, and environmental considerations. The project aimed to improve pedestrian and cyclist visibility while preserving the natural character of the gardens.

As part of the project, Public Lighting Design conducted a detailed site assessment to verify existing pole locations, luminaire types, and mounting heights. The initial analysis identified 12 operational luminaires and three non-functioning poles, with the latter requiring removal as part of the renewal. A proposed lighting plan was developed, recommending the replacement of all 15 light poles with new gooseneck poles to enhance light distribution and pathway aesthetics.

To address environmental concerns, the design incorporated LED luminaires to ensure compliance with AS/NZS 1158.3.1 (subcategory PP3) standards for pathway lighting.

Public Lighting Design prepared a comprehensive lighting layout, including lux contour maps and compliance tables, ensuring the proposed lighting plan met Australian Standards. The final solution aligned with City of Port Phillip’s sustainability objectives, enhancing energy efficiency, reducing light pollution, and improving the usability of the central path for both pedestrians and cyclists.
