Public Lighting Design was engaged by City of Port Phillip to conduct a detailed lighting audit of nine major sports fields, ensuring compliance with AS 2560.2:2021 standards for sports lighting. The assessment aimed to enhance safety, improve visibility and optimise lighting conditions for night-time sports events across the municipality.

The audit covered JL Murphy Reserve (Pitch 1, Aanenson, and Woodruff), Alma Park East, Peanut Farm, and Elwood Park (Wattie Watson, Esplanade, Head A, and Head B). Using calibrated lux meters, GPS mapping, and GIS software, our team conducted on-site lux level measurements, lighting fixture inspections and compliance analysis. The findings highlighted areas where lighting levels were below standard, including Alma Park East and Woodruff Field at JL Murphy Reserve, both of which required upgrades to meet compliance. At Peanut Farm, the assessment identified lighting inefficiencies impacting uniformity, requiring improvements to enhance light distribution and visibility.

To address these issues, Public Lighting Design developed site-specific recommendations, including replacing outdated luminaires with modern LED fixtures, optimising pole positioning, and improving overall uniformity. The final audit report provided a comprehensive breakdown of compliance issues, lux level deficiencies, and a prioritised action plan to support future upgrades. These enhancements will ensure safer, well-lit sports facilities, improving visibility for players, officials, and spectators while aligning with best-practice lighting standards.
